Mike Armstrong graduated from UC Berkeley with a BS in Conservation of Natural Resources (1977). He obtained an MS from Sacramento State in Recreation and Park Administration (1979). His40-year career focused on Recreational Sports and Athletics. Mike worked for the City of Richmond, University of San Francisco, Schools of the Sacred Heart, where he was the first Dean of Students and Athletic Director for Stuart Hall High School in San Francisco, and the Town of Ross overseeing the Recreation program and various park renovation projects. Mike retired in 2020. He currently serves on the North Coast Section CIF Board of Managers (High School Athletics) and is the President of Touchstone Golf Foundation. Mike has coached High School golf for 30 years and is currently the Girls Golf Coach at Albany High. Jim Baer (aka “JB”) is graduate from UC Berkeley with AB in Political Science (1977). He completed a MS in Recreation Administration at San Jose State University and worked for the City of Sunnyvale’s nationally renowned Recreation Department just as CA public agencies were challenged with lower revenue from Proposition 13. At the time of the “Crash of 1987”, JB transitioned to become a Series 7 licensed Stockbroker. In 1990 JB began his current career as a Registered Investment Advisor. Steve Bersch graduated from UC Berkeley from the Haas School of Business with a BS (1977) and received his JD at UC Berkeley Law (1981). He practiced law for a few years, and then segued into the motion picture business and worked in this area in since 1984. Currently he is President of Screen Gems, a division of Sony Pictures Entertainment, based on the Sony lot in Culver City, California. Bill Black graduated from UC Berkeley with a BS in Accounting (1977). He subsequently received an MBA in Taxation from Golden Gate University (1981). He initially worked in the Banking, Leasing and Public Accounting industries before securing his Certified Public Accounting license (1988). He started his own CPA firm specializing in Tax that he continues to manage. He’s also been a highly regarded and successful basketball official (“ref”) for over 40 years and can still be seen “on the court” at many High School gyms in San Francisco, the northern Peninsula and Marin County. Randy Brody graduated from UC Berkeley with a BA in Economics(1979). He obtained an MBA from USC in 1984 and, soon after, relocated to the San Diego area. He remains a San Diego resident. Randy was employed in the business side with Hewlett Packard and then with Eastman Kodak. During his career, he accumulated many years of VP-level management experience in the Sales, Marketing, and Finance fields. Randy progressed in the technology field taking on broader General Management leadership roles, including overall profit and loss responsibility for the business units. Peter Cohn graduated from UC Berkeley with a BS in Business Administration, Finance and Accounting (1977) and UC Berkeley School of Law(1981). He clerked for the Honorable Robert W. Eric Eisenman graduated from UC Berkeley in 1978 with a BS in Political Economy of Natural Resources. He received an MS in 1981 in Agricultural Economics from UC Davis. He spent over 40 years in the energy/utility business, the last 35 with PG&E and related subsidiaries. Throughout his career he was involved in infrastructure development including natural gas pipelines and the connection of large solar and wind resources to California’s transmission grid. He worked regularly with California and Federal regulators to ensure that energy projects were built timely so that California consumers had reliable energy service. Bess Gurman graduated from UC Berkeley with a BS in Economics (1977) and completed a MCRP (1980) at Harvard University. She was a development analyst at the Boston Redevelopment Authority, a real estate consultant at Deloitte and Touche and a municipal revenue bond rating specialist at S&P. She became an independent real estate market analyst, allowing her to work from home part-time and volunteer in her now grown childrens’ schools. Bess also served on the non-profit Camp Kee Tov Board. She earned a Post-Bac Certificate in Creative Writing at UC Berkeley Extension (2016). Her novella is unpublishable but was an arduous joy to write! More importantly, since 2012, she has been a writer’s coach in the Berkeley middle and high schools. Joel Hausman graduated from UC Berkeley with an AB in History (1980) and received an MBA from the Wharton School (1984). Joel had a 37-year career in the brokerage and asset management businesses. Initially he focused on research and institutional sales roles at Robertson Stephens and JMP Securities. He served as head of JMP Securities’ investment committee. He also provided analytic and portfolio management duties at an equity hedge fund and a family office. Bob Horowitz attended UC Berkeley, majoring in Sociology (1974-1977). While a senior at Cal, Bob combined his interests in sports marketing and media to become the general manager of the Golden Gaters, the Bay Area's World Team Tennis franchise. Following Team Tennis, he became the President of Golden Gaters Productions (GGP), a producer and distributor of television programming and Made-for-TV events. In 1997, he left the Bay Area, moving to New York to lead the North America television division of IMG. At IMG, Bob was responsible for representing Wimbledon, the British Open, the New York Marathon, various PGA and LPGA projects, and numerous prime time television events. In 2005, Bob decided to leave the global sports and entertainment firm to form JUMA Entertainment, (named after his two daughters JUlia and MAggie), creating a bi-coastal television production studio specializing in prime-time lifestyle series for major networks and various cable entities. Jim Kahn (JK) graduated from UC Berkeley with an AB in History (1978). He received his MD from the University of California, San Francisco (1982) and was an internal medicine resident at Johns Hopkins Hospital and a senior resident at UCSF. He then received subspecialty training at UCSF in Oncology and joined the faculty at UCSF, specifically in the AIDS Program at SFGH. He spent 25 years becoming a Professor at UCSF and his research activities focused on antiretroviral and novel therapeutic treatments of HIV infection, understanding elements of HIV pathogenesis and post exposure prevention of HIV infection. For the past ten years he has been at Stanford as a Professor of Medicine serving four years as Vice Chair for the Department of Medicine and Chief of the Medical Service at the Palo Alto VA. Steve Lowenthal graduated from UC Berkeley in 1979 with a BS in Political Economy of Natural Resources. He graduated from Stanford Law School in 1982. Bob Mansbach graduated from UC Berkeley with a BA degree in Journalism (1977). In1981, Bob was hired by CBS Sports and he moved from San Francisco to New York. Over the years Bob worked as a producer on a variety of sports ranging from NFL football , NBA, and NCAA basketball, three Winter Olympics, US Open Tennis (Coordinating producer), MLB baseball, the Masters, and PGA Championships and numerous other events. Robin Mayer graduated from UC Berkeley with a BS in Zoology (1978). She began her careers teaching science enrichment classes at the Steinhardt Academy in Golden Gate Park. Robin opened a kitchenware shop, Robin’s Nest, in Sonoma. At Robin’s Nest she combined her love of cooking and helping others with a similar passion. She sold the business after ten years and began a temporary stint in property management in San Francisco and Marin. Robin returned to school to study Counseling Psychology at Dominican University of California. She received her MS and became a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in 2000 and now has a thriving private practice in Marin. Mark Myers graduated from UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business with a BS (1977). He had a 40-year career at Wells Fargo & Company and served as executive vice president and head of the Wells Fargo Commercial Real Estate Group until he retired in February 2020. As Group Head, Mark had responsibility, throughout the United States as well as international operations in Toronto and London, for Wells Fargo’s Commercial Real Estate platform of banking, financing, and servicing solutions for commercial real estate companies inclusive of; balance sheet lending, CMBS origination, agency financing for multifamily assets, and debt and equity capital for the affordable housing industry. Keith Tandowsky graduated from UC Berkeley with a BS in Economics (1979) and an MBA from the Haas Business School (1981). He had a 35-year career at The Clorox Company in Oakland beginning in the Finance Development program, focused on Mergers and Acquisitions and then leading finance for key parts of Clorox’s businesses. Connie Unger graduated from UC Berkeley with an AB in Business(1977). She and her husband, Richard Unger, married as undergraduates. Connie raised three children and is helping to raise four grandchildren in San Diego. She has volunteered for a variety of causes, including Kitchens for Good (and she was honored by the North County Philanthropy Council in 2019 for her work). Connie also volunteered with Voices for Children (doing advocacy for foster children) and the San Diego Public Library (selling valuable donated books on eBay ). Richard Unger graduated from UC Berkeley with an AB (1977) and received his MD at Medical College of Virginia(1981). After medical school, he completed his training at UCSF and UCSD in both Internal Medicine and Anesthesiology. After a brief 3-year stint in Critical Care Medicine at UCSD, he moved to Scripps La Jolla. Over the last 30+ years he has been involved in cardiac, obstetric, and general anesthesiology.
